Date Night!

Joe and I do a date night every once in a while. We usually do a coffee date every week but a date night is a special occasion and this time Joe made all the arrangements, he found a restaurant and made the reservations. The food is one of the best in Seattle in a little restaurant called No Anchor. It’s located in the Belltown neighborhood and has great dishes and cocktails. We ordered the shrimp roll thing….not really sure what it was but a shrimp mixture on a pretzel with home made ketchup chips! They are SO good, and being from Canada I really do miss my ketchup chips. A tip from the host said to cut up the bread and the shrimp mix, and make sure its cut up enough to scoop up with a chip and eat. I didn’t get that far during our meal, I cut one piece off and decided to eat it right then and it was too good to stop eating. We have yet to try the shrimp on chip combo but we’ll go back one day and give it a shot. Plus everything was really good, I know any combination of all those things together (shrimp, pretzel, chip) will be amazing. Anyway, onto the rest of the meal. Next we had a cheese board with rye bread complete with a strawberry compote and apple slices. There were four different types of cheese, and this dish rotates seasonally so you’ll expect to find different types each time you visit. And surprisingly it was quite filling, these are two appetizers and not main meals but they had so much in them we left full. The creamy cheese was the best (Maybe a bre? I forget what kind we had!!) with the strawberry jam, the cheese almost tasted like butter it was so smooth.

We both got cocktails, Joe ordered the Sailor’s Martini and I got the Tropical Drank haha a great combination of matcha and coconut, and splash of vodka. We aren’t huge drinkers, we haven’t really been since we’ve been together. But we like trying out new drinks. I will also add, that when we do try drinks and if I drink them really fast I tend to get red (asian glow yay) and start feeling the alcohol really soon. Especially when I’m on an empty stomach. I will say, that one splash of vodka got to me fast right after we were done and walking down the street. Haha! Oh good times. It came and passed. It was still a really good drink, maybe too good because I drank it so quickly. I enjoy matcha, that was my first ever matcha alcohol juice.

No Anchor

Local shrimp roll (with ketchup chips!)

Our walk home included a teensy walk through Belltown (as clumsy and ‘feeling’ the drink as I was) we did manage to walk through quite a few of the streets and walked past some other great places to try. Such as Macrina Bakery, you have to get there early but it’s a really good spot for brunch. Their martinis are always fruit flavoured and pretty awesome. We also passed by Biscuit Bitch, I believe this is a chain and another place we intend to try. During week days I always pass by the Belltown location on my way to work and there is always a line out the door down the street around 7am, that’s when you know it must be good.

Sidewalk inspiration - Belltown

Through our walk we came across this piece of inspiration painted into the sidewalk. What I wonder is who wrote it and why? Was it intended for someone who felt lost, who may at the moment they passed by it look down to read? When I read it I get an air of sadness, this sounds like something my dad once told me when I was going through a hard time. He turned to me and said “This too shall pass Kim” and I thought wow what an insensitive thing to say when I’m going through pain. But he always said it, and he later added on that he’s always found that life just goes on and as hard as it was to hear at the time it does just go on, exactly like he said it does.

Shameless selfie

date night (minimal) makeup

Lastly, I don’t usually do my makeup and on date nights I do! Because of this I took many selfies, this is the one that turned out (out of probably 100 or so) but I’ll just put this here because I like it! I don’t usually have great selfies but this one turned out okay! Nighty night internet home :)
