Grocery Update - Week 3
And now we are going into our third week on the challenge :) We are revved up and ready to go!! Haha not really. I am craving everything, I want all the candies, chocolates, bread, pastries etc. I want it all. Joe is fine though, not having any issues with the challenge whatsoever, I wish I could be more like him. To combat my cravings we’ve invested in flavoured waters, and those are helping me get past the food challenge part of this. Though also taking a slight hit to the money savings part of the food challenge, I think by the end of this I’ll be better at it but man eating and drinking the same things every day for weeks gets really hard. We also have a few changes we will include in this update, including our move to our condo and some things we needed because of that move. You will see in the grocery list, there are a few extra things in there. And here we go :)
Tortillas x 6 = $18.00
Cheese x 4 = $27.88
Lean beef x 2 = ($12.65, $12.77) = $25.42
Limes x 3 = $1.77
Tofu x 2 = $2.98
Flavoured water = ($4.99, $7.49) = $12.48
Bok choy = $3.54
Tools = $15.38
Coat hanger = $3.29
Towel Hanger, shower curtain, toilet paper holder = $49.57
Floss = $4.39
Pizza, twix, skittles = $11.99 (We couldn’t help it! We didn’t want to have a cheat meal but I caved and had to have one, so we had one and now I feel great)
Amazon order = $40.15
Total: $216.92
So this week we did better than I thought we would, we spent more than we thought but that was because we moved. I also think this will change throughout the week because we may need to purchase a few more things to make our lunches. But we’re still doing well! Our total overall is: Week 1 ($112.10) + Week 2 ($67.71) + Week 3 ($216.92) = $396.73 on groceries and little odds and ends things.
Update as of 9/5/2019 - we had to get a few more groceries this week! Wanted to give a full picture update on our week. Our total from previous was $146.41 and we went to the grocery store and bought:
Beef = $16.22
Tofu x 2 = $2.98
Spices to make the meat taste different = $7.99
Total: $146.41 + $27.19 = $173.6
Therefore we spent $173.6 this week on groceries, woot! I also found that we have a surprisingly large amount of ‘free’ things when it comes to work. I don’t take anything home but I mean ‘free’ as in people bring in cookies or lunch is catered etc. Which actually does help with the budget a little bit. There are also weeks that are unexpected and a crap ton of things get loaded into a week and we just spend way over board too.
An update on savings, we received a check in the mail for an additional amount back to us regarding our closing fees on the condo. The money will be returned and put back into our condo/savings. Almost there.
