Some of my creations
For a long time I’ve wanted to work on projects involving a little more creativity. For school and for work I do a lot of things that do not involve art or that type of creativity. I’ve found a few ways to express myself through art, either through calligraphy or drawing which were two of my first loves. I also went to an art high school up in Canada before I moved to the USA and my focus was on dance, another outlet. Since then I haven’t had much of an opportunity to do creative works and I decided that during my down time I wanted to focus a little more on that part of my brain. I saw a few youtubers who were great at macrame and thought I would give it a try and this brought me to my new creations! I have included a few photos below.
A lot of my inspiration comes from just trying to create a story through weaving. Maybe that’s a little too artsy but I want whatever I create to represent things or stories. It’s also helpful that we live really close to a park where we can pick up sticks and I can use them for my wall hangings. This is also helpful because the length of the stick depicts how big of a canvas I have to work with. The width of the string is also a great indicator of how much space I can fill, thinner string takes up less space and I can do many more detailed knots with them, as opposed to thicker string that doesn’t allow for as much but creates a great texture.
When I’m on my own, not working or doing anything else you can find me making knots on my latest creations.
